A really funny sight.
Me and Amanda was sittin’ in church
On the very back row,
Where you can watch stuff happenin’,
When in come Ole’ Miz’ Jones,
A’hobbling on her cane.
Now that wasn’t funny,
But a big ole’ snake of toilet paper,
Caught on her shoe
An’ crawlin’ along behind her
All the way down the aisle,
Was the funniest thing I ever seen.
Well, me an’ Amanda just lost it.
We giggled and pointed
So nobody’d miss seein’ it.
All of a sudden, I looked up at the platform,
Where my daddy was sittin’,
An’ I tell you the truth—
He dint’ look one bit happy.
I knew there was goin’ to be
One grand talkin’ to when we got home.
After dinner when we was in the livin’ room,
He looked so sad, I wanted to cry.
When he said he had trusted me
To be a kind little girl
An’ set a good example
As the preacher’s daughter,
I set to cryin’ and slobberin’
All over the place.
Then he told me how ole’ Miz’ Jones
Had a lot of hardship in her life
An’ was kind and sweet anyhow.
He reminded me how she’d bake cookies
With choc’lat chips and nuts in ‘em
An’ bring some to our house,
An’ I felt even worser.
I told him how sorry I was
An’ I hoped he would trust me agin’,
An’ he said he would,
But I have to tell you—
That sure was a funny sight!
