Shrivel from a suddenness of unexpected frost,
Lingering in frigidness to kill a crop—
Lost, summer’s awesomeness.
Dainty little fawn, padding softly in the forest,
Ventures from her mother’s watchful eye.
Once captured and devoured by marauding coyotes,
She won’t go home again.
Although majestic, the sound of symphony unconcluded,
And beautiful, the paintings that have been left unfinished,
How much more wondrous would they be
Were artistry complete.
As brittle stem of rosebush lies broken by the storm,
Fragrance of freshly opened buds rises from rain-wet leaves,
Portending the sweet scented essence of blossoms,
Never to appear.
Like tender rosebud snatched from life too soon,
The tiny infant breathes a final breath.
Embodiment of parents’ expectations—
Their dreams all unfulfilled.
Yet unlike other entities that cannot reach completion,
The little babe’s made perfect by God’s divine design,
Awaiting then in heaven for grieving family.
God’s promise is their hope.
