It sickened Aliwahzi that the King had this woman on the side. The King’s wife, Jiballah, was a beautiful woman with brown eyes like those of an innocent doe roaming the mountain of Hebani. They grew up together, Aliwahzi and Jiballah. He remembers the day one of the King’s men came and took Jiballah from his village as a young girl. Jiballah saw him one day years later and told him of the horribleness of the King and how he mistreated her. Aliwahzi vowed to her that he would not let her live a life of misery any longer. That was seven years ago and now Aliwahzi was ready to take back Jiballah and give her a good life.
Samara’s steps were close now to the wine pot and he could her humming a love song. It was a song he often heard his mother hum around his father. He waited until she came around to the other pot for the oil and shifted his weight slightly so that he would be ready. His movement made noise though and Samara heard him.
“Is that you, my love?” Samara called out. “Please come out of the shadows that I may see you.”
Her breath was heavy now and Aliwahzi peeped through the linens and oil pot to view her. She was taking off her outer garment and letting it drop to the floor. He was confused as to why she was undressing in the pantry until he heard footsteps. He shifted again and peeped through the wine pot and the linen.
“There you are. I was wondering if you were going to come to me.” The man’s voice was not that of the King’s. It was familiar but the figure was still in the shadows.
Aliwahzi shifted again as the footsteps moved closer to Samara. When he peeped this time, he saw that Samara had removed her inner garment and the man had done the same. The man laid Samara down against the stack of linens only inches from Aliwahzi.
“My dear, Taboori, please make love to me as many times as there are stars in the sky.” Samara whispered in the man’s ear.
Aliwahzi knew he must change his plans. He could not defeat Taboori; he was the commander of the King’s army and a skilled fighter. As the two made love on the linens, Aliwahzi crept slowly to the door and escaped. He ran as fast as he could and told a guard that he must speak with King at once and that it was about Samara. The guard let him in and Aliwahzi explained to the King what he had seen.
At sunset, Aliwahzi witnessed Taboori and Samara’s naked bodies hang in the King’s courtyard. He was then called to the King’s palace to dine with the King and Jiballah. As he sat at the table, Aliwahzi felt something under the table brush against his leg. It was Jiballah’s hand and in it something hard. Aliwahzi reached down and took from her a vial. She then excused herself to her chambers. Aliwahi sat with the King and shared several flasks of wine before getting up the nerve to pour the contents of the vial into the flask. As he did so under the table, the King looked him in the eye and began to speak.
“I know you love my wife, Ali. She speaks of you often and of her life before becoming my queen. She's a filthy whore but she is mine. Do you understand?” The King leaned forward towards Aliwahzi.
Before Aliwahzi could answer, Jiballah ran up behind the King and stabbed him in the back causing him to fall to the floor. She ran to Aliwahzi and hugged him but before they could escape, the King’s guards rushed in to subdue them both. They stood pressed together and partook in the last flask of wine before they were apprehended. They found freedom in their final kiss and in death.
