I climb through the window
of a man’s soul
A hijacker - I make unreasonable demands
holding a life to ransom
I garb myself in human flesh
and tie down a man’s heart
I make my home
in the place where God should be
and believe there’s no one to evict me
Disguised as a worshipper
with white wool tallit and knotted fringes
I stride into the synagogue
face arranged in a smile
body posed in piety
Unrecognised and unchallenged
I take my place among the assembled
I make my home
In the place where God should be
and believe there’s no one to evict me
But God is there that day
dressed in His human flesh
He refuses to negotiate with terrorists
and exposes me as an imposter
He tears away my camouflage
I make ready to expose Him
but He binds me and casts me out
I have lost my home
as God takes up His residence
I am evicted.
