Of all that had occurred,
Our house’s walls would speak about
The things they’ve seen and heard.
Like sweet words from a bride and groom,
Beginning their new life
And practicing their fledgling roles:
A husband and a wife.
Like all the love and work it took
And problems that they’d face
To turn a house into a home
And make a happy place.
Like little ones who came along,
Which made their lives abound
With busy days and sleepless nights
And things turned upside down.
Like spats and spills and illnesses
And schoolwork to be done,
Like pets and games and giggle fests
And hours of family fun.
Like blessings for the dinner meal
And learning wrong from right,
Like times of study in the Word
And bedtime prayers each night.
Like what they did for special days,
And graduation hours,
Like weddings that they’d celebrate
With songs and vows and flowers.
Like children grown who came again
With little girls and boys,
Who brought with them a special joy
And filled the house with noise.
