My friends and I were young in the faith then, and we struggled to live the Christian life. After a while, some of them gave up and walked away from the faith. At times I was tempted to do the same, but something kept me, and I was not free to give in to the struggles that I was facing as a young Christian. I longed to be settled and find rest in my Christian walk.
Then, when I read the Bible, I saw in Matthew 11:28(NKJV), "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." This promise became a personal comfort, encouraging me in my Christian walk, knowing that someday I will find the “rest” the Bible speaks about.
I remembered my Pastor had preached on that scripture one Sunday in service, and as I walked home alone, I felt lonely and empty. And I began to think about my life, the struggles of being a Christian, and how to overcome my negative feelings about myself. Then I realized I didn't have to keep living the way I was.
The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:17(NKJV), "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
Then I understood that to be in Christ Jesus is by faith in His finished work at Calvary. I began to seek Him daily through prayer and reading His Word, which helped me experience His deliverance and live in His love, empowering me to face life's struggles with confidence.
In Romans 8:35-39 (NKJV), "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written:
"For Your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
And when we abide in His love, His character naturally flows through us to others. We show kindness, love, and patience to the people around us and to those we meet in our daily journey as a Christian.
And what fellowship, and what joy we experience living in the presence of the Lord!
