As a children’s pastor for many years, I often had to explain complex topics to children in ways they could understand. Some concepts were harder to explain than others. Like being born again. “How can a man, once he is old, reenter his mother’s womb?” Or the trinity. "How can three persons reside in one God?"
While some truths of Scripture can take a lifetime to understand, the good news of the gospel is wonderfully simple. In fact, salvation to me is as simple as A-B-C.
A – Admit you are a sinner, and you need forgiveness. Romans 3:23 tells us, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
B – Believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that he died on a cross for our sins, but three days later rose back to life victorious over sin, hell, and the grave. John 3:16 illustrates this beautifully: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
C – Confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord. Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
Salvation is a free gift to us. We don’t have to earn it or jump through hoops to receive it. But we do have to receive it.
If someone handed you a gift, but you didn’t take it from their hands, you didn’t receive it. But if they handed you the gift and you took it from them, then you have received the gift intended for you.
Salvation is the beginning of a lifelong relationship with Jesus. If you have never received this free gift of salvation, I urge you to do it today. It really is as easy as A-B-C!
