When a group of non-powered thieves robbed a bank, the women weren’t worried about finding and arresting them, even if they were outnumbered five to four.
Acting on a tip from a friendly police officer, they landed just outside of a grimy warehouse. The four heroines had a quick conference as to how to enter the building and capture the crooks. Mariness said, “If Diamond were here, he’d go for the direct approach. Just break the door down and rush in.”
Blue Flame responded, “That’s because he’s invulnerable. We aren’t'."
Amazing Woman said, “I can be nearly as invulnerable as Rex is. Plus I can sneak through that air duct in the back at a reduced size.”
Her companions thought that Amazing Woman’s strategy of attacking from the rear was sound tactically. Shrinking down, she slipped inside the vent. An instant later, she regretted the fact she was in complete darkness. “All my various abilities and I can’t see in the dark.’ she thought.
As she crept along, her hands hit a small soft bundle, that let out a squeak of dismay at being touched. Stifling a sneeze from the dust, Amazing Woman cautiously felt the soft obstruction and realized it was a kitten who had likely entered in to shelter from the weather. Amazing Woman figured that the kitten had probably gotten trapped and might starve if she left it, so she grew just enough to scoop the kitten up and bundle it along with her.
The kitten purred as it was being carried close to the heroine. Amazing Woman knew when she emerged she would need to grow to a size where she could protect the kitten. Fortunately years of practice with her powers made that easy.
As she reached the opening, she telepathically broadcast to the rest of the team, ‘Ready on my end.’
There was no quiet way to do it, so she kicked the grating over the vent. As it fell to the floor, Amazing Woman grew to about thirty feet tall and tucked the kitten into a belt pouch to keep it safe. That was a wise idea, as the thieves began emptying their guns at her the instant she touched the floor.
The rest of the team raced in through the main door, which Blue Flame had blasted open.
Guns emptied at Amazing Woman meant the others made short work of the gang. As the police were leading them away, Amazing Woman reached into the pouch to get a better look at the kitten she had rescued. Blue Flame looked at the little grey kitten and asked, “Why are you carrying a kitten?”
Amazing Woman smiled at her friend. “I found him in the duct, and all lives matter.”
Coldfire reached out to stroke the kitten’s head. “What are you going to do with it?”
Amazing Woman responded, “Adopt it. And I’ve decided his name will be Dusty.”
Blue Flame joined Coldfire in stroking Dusty, but Mariness held back saying, “Suit yourself, I’m allergic to cats.”
Amazing Woman switched back to her civilian identity and walked down the street to a nearby pet store, where she bought Dusty all the things a new kitten needs.

I was confused whether the women were part of the Light Force: When a group of non-powered thieves robbed a bank, the women weren’t worried about finding and arresting them, even if they were outnumbered five to four.
This isn't a genre I usually read, so it was fun to experience a new perspective.
I believe the opening may have been more exciting if you had opened with someone from the light force listening to the radio about the bank robbers.
I hope to see more si-fi stories on Faithwriters.
