There was a time the Apostle Paul felt abandoned. It was towards the end of his ministry. One would think he would be surrounded by supportive Believers. He related the experience to Timothy. “At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me…But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me…” (2 Timothy 4:16-17 ESV).
What an encouraging thought. When you find yourself feeling deserted and alone in a crowd, turn your thoughts to Jesus. “Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.” (1Peter 5:7 ESV). Cling to Jesus’ promise, “I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20 ESV)
As I reflect on my experience several years ago, I can testify to Jesus’ claim to be with me and bring peace during a storm. Our situation did not turn out perfectly, but relationships were maintained, and our prodigal is now committed to Christ. For that I am eternally grateful!
“Jesus, life is messy some times, and it is easy to feel abandoned and forgotten. At those times, help me to immerse myself in your Word more than ever. Let me never forget that You are standing by me and strengthening me. I give You thanks!”
ESV 2 Timothy 4:16-17, 1 Peter 5:7, Matthew 28:20
