A little dog should be,
But one trait that she sadly lacked
Was generosity.
She had a special empathy
For all the family,
But tenderly she’d show concern
In her own way for me.
She loved to follow me around
Or cuddle in my lap.
That was her very special place
To rest or take a nap.
When worried and I’d pace the floor,
Then by my side, she’d stay.
I’d give my problems to the Lord,
Though I can’t say she’d pray.
Although her bark belied the truth,
She had great gentleness.
A child was safe at play with her,
A tiny babe at rest.
But still, she wasn’t generous.
Her food bowl she’d not share,
Despite the fact our feisty cat
Was known to linger there.
If I’d give her a rawhide treat
And then ask for a bite,
She’d run into another room
And whisk it out of sight.
I’ll not forget our little dog
With Missy as her name.
Although she wasn’t generous,
I loved her just the same.
