Releases faith-filled sound waves
Which zoom like guided missiles
Through frigid realms of darkness,
Leaving behind colorful trails of atoms
And molecules, which, when
Greatly multiplied, form stars
That gather into galaxies
Too vast to comprehend.
One spectacular seed of light
Fashions a planet, waters it,
Gives it an atmosphere,
Parts seas to reveal dry land,
Draws proteins from soil
And weaves them into strands of DNA.
Myriad life forms are born.
What microscope can clarify
Such marvelous complexities?
And who can wrap his mind around
A mystery such as photosynthesis
Which enables plants to grow,
Producing roots, shoots, leaves and fruits
To feed a large variety of animals?
Leave it to man to shun God’s command
And sample the forbidden tree,
Choosing knowledge over wisdom,
Lies over truth, death over life.
Chaos rules and destruction reigns, but one woman’s seed shall crush the serpent’s head. The promise tarries many years, until finally
One spectacular seed of light
Descends to earth, becomes a baby,
Grows into a man. He feels the limits
Placed on him by his humanity
Though his miracles reflect divinity.
Watch him turn water to wine, heal the sick,
Open blind eyes, free the oppressed,
Raise the dead, multiply food,
Fulfill hundreds of prophecies
And baffle pious “know it alls”
Who try to trap him with trick questions.
He slips through their fingers unharmed
When they try to pin him down,
Until it's time for him to drink the bitter cup.
Envisioning the joy that awaits him
Once it’s over, he willingly allows himself
To be mocked, spat upon, crowned with thorns,
His back whipped to shreds - forty lashes minus one,
And to be battered beyond belief, his arms pressed
Against rough wood. The hammer slams down.
His hands and feet groan in agony.
The heavy weight of man’s sin crushes him.
His heart breaks. Yet in the midst of his agony
He manages to forgive his enemies,
Pardon a repentant thief and provide a new home
For his mother before declaring, “It is finished.”
Finally, this spectacular seed of light,
Creator of the universe, Maker of all,
Dies and is buried, placed in a tomb.
He descends into hell, conquers death,
And emerges victorious, rising to life
On the third day. A glorious resurrection
Takes place. Incredible! Awesome! Fantastic!
An angel rolls away the stone, scaring
The soldiers charged with guarding the dead body.
The story ends with a call to spread the good news: He is risen!
All nature declares this truth, which is written in the stars. The humble receive it with joy while intellectual Goliaths label it “fake news.” They like to spread the rumor that the disciples stole Jesus’ body while sixteen dedicated soldiers slept the night away. Some people, in fact, think the gospel accounts were made up. Others view the entire Bible as a collection of religious fairy tales. They base their opinions on faulty assumptions rather than a careful examination of available evidence.
Despite their unbelief, however, Jesus continues to extend the invitation.
“Put your finger in the nail prints. Thrust your hand into my side. Don’t be faithless but believing.” - John 20:27 (KJV version, loosely paraphrased)
Now, that’s what I call amazing!
