Winding paths, gentle breeze.
Soft sun shining, fragrant air,
Blossom falling, tales to share.
Holding hands, walking slow,
Perfect moment, face aglow.
Then he gets cold feet.
It's just too soon,
Not opportune.
The show is over, the moon is high,
Streets are silent, inky sky.
Footprints echo, walks her home,
No one around, all alone.
She takes his arm; he draws her close,
Hearts are full, high are hopes.
Then he gets cold feet,
Lets the moment pass.
Another lost chance.
White-clothed table, silver ware,
Flicker of candle, best of fare.
Waiters wearing black bow ties,
Music softly, shining eyes.
Nothing wanting, all is fine,
Gourmet food, choicest wine.
Then he gets cold feet.
Can the time be right?
He again takes fright.
Doctor's waiting room, scruffy clothes,
Streaming eyes, reddened nose,
Welts on cheeks, greasy hair.
He rang her; she brought him there.
Sneezing, sniffling, looks a fright.
It's the middle of the night.
Then she takes his hand,
Nudges his knee,
Whispers, “Marry me!”
