At the appointed time,
Writers in this Challenge
Search for results sublime.
We open up the listings
And hunt to find our name;
We have waited for this moment
To see how we fared in the game.
Looking from high to low
And then from low to high,
When we find our placement
We sometimes want to cry.
Our tears can flow from joy;
Our tears can flow from sorrow.
But whatever makes them course
We will start again tomorrow.
We think and think and think
And then sit down to write;
Even if our thoughts don’t click
We still try to be so bright.
Our words can stream like water
And often more like ice;
But whatever route they take
We still will pay the price.
Such is the lot of writers
Who relish in this thrill;
But whatever place we finish
Just remember to chill.
