TITLE: 'B' | Previous Challenge Entry

The stretching silver motorway,
Winds like a coursing stream
And slices through the countryside
With iridescent gleam.
No deviating twisting bend
Around a village green,
No forking roads to right or left,
Nothing can intervene
The single-minded motorway
With aim relentlessly
To get me in the straightest line
From ‘A’, safely, to ‘B’.
My mind’s now on my journey end,
Fixed eye, my destination:
Blue rolling seas, white sandy coves,
Beauty b’yond explanation.
I give no lingering tender glance
To meadows of wild flowers,
Forests of trees, cornfields of gold
Ablaze with poppy showers.
The journey’s sometimes glorious
But its splendour I won’t see
Because my heart and mind are fixed
Only on reaching ‘B’.
I’d pored the brochure, read each page
And studied every line;
I’d researched every corner,
The pictures were sublime.
But the journey takes forever,
The stretching ribbon-road
Seemed long, endless and distant
From the heart of my abode.
May I continue watchful,
Know focussed tenacity,
And allow no deviation
To stop me reaching ‘B’.
When I began my journey
I was conscious frequently
Of many other vehicles
Accompanying, passing me.
Models of every size and shape,
All shades were on display,
Some sped, some dawdled, some broke down
Whilst others left the way.
I often got distracted by
My curiosity
But now, nearer my journey end,
I long to just see ‘B’.
The stretching silver motorway,
Winds like a coursing stream
And slices through the countryside
With iridescent gleam.
The journey of this road trip
I may not understand
But my Guide will bring me safely
All the way to Beaulah-land.
