Infants’ first tears greet a world of sin,
And old sinners die,
Spent for their own doomed kingdoms,
Or for Your glorious one...
Depending on whether,
Between beginning and end
They felt Your touch
And were born anew.
In Your hands,
Seven billion lives,
Woven together in thousands of daily rebellions,
Unheralded obediences,
Countless "coincidences,"
Unnumbered words,
Split-second insignificant decisions,
Or life-altering ones...
All at Your appointed time,
For our good and Your glory.
In Your hands,
Kingdoms rise and fall,
The earth reels and totters,
Evil rages and schemes.
But You hold the whole globe
And each molecule in it.
For You are not limited by hugeness,
Like an elephant who can’t fit in a thimble,
But You are infinite, with no limits,
Able to enter the deepest recesses
Of the world that spins on the tip of Your finger.
In Your hands,
A zillion threads of history led to
One particular baby in a cow stall,
One ultimate evil transformed into glory
On a lonely, skull-shaped hill…
And one tomb defiantly empty,
Despite Hell's mightiest resistance.
And in Your hands
The world still writhes in pains of childbirth,
Groaning for the day when it will give birth to
Your glorified sons and daughters,
Delivered fresh and innocent into Your scarred palms,
As You laugh with joy,
And creation is renewed,
And all is forever beautiful,
In Your hands.
