Prime choice of all virgins, most beautiful seen.
Though not his first love, I am still his most true,
Since that nasty divorce he and Vashti went through.
Though hundreds of concubines there may yet be,
I, only I, have attained royalty.
Yet it's been a month since he last called my name.
I wonder if toward me he still feels the same.
I have all the comforts a maiden could want:
Soft pillows, sleek dresses, a gold crown to flaunt.
I just need reminding that his heart is mine,
For my insecurity treads a thin line.
The children of Israel's frail lives are in peril,
As my fragile safety lies over a barrel.
Though Mordecai says I must speak to the king,
It's been a month since I've seen his signet ring.
Some strange occult hedge, it seems, hampers his ears
From hearing my viewpoints, thus growing my fears
That this nationality I dare not share
May bring my own kin to the brink of despair.
A gagger would kill us, desiring us dead.
We must break his chokehold, cut off worry's head,
And so I do humbly suggest for three days
We Jews do no feasting, while everyone prays.
To make fast the bond between Gentile and Jew,
I urge Mordecai to collect not a few
Broken souls that are willing to go without food.
Then I'll broach the topic, though it may seem rude.
How do I persuade him that I speak the truth?
By seeking the very same shelter as Ruth,
Who followed her mother-in-law to a place
Where upon her the King of all kings bestowed grace.
I'll lean on His wisdom (it's higher than mine),
And then I'll prepare him a banquet divine -
The language of blessing with nary a curse,
Taking courage like Joshua with each Bible verse.
I'll go though I break every "party line" rule,
Say what I must say, though he think me a fool.
Just like Balaam's donkey, the Lord I'll obey.
If I perish, I perish, in God's hands I'll stay.
