TITLE: Outstanding Beauty | Previous Challenge Entry

"Isn't it outstanding?" She asked her friend, Bethany.
"Isn't what outstanding?"
"The stars. The galaxies. The constellations..... This." She said, flinging her arms wide, almost hitting Bethany.
"Yeah, I guess."
"You guess?"
"I mean... they're stars. They're nothing special."
"Nothing special? Did you know the closest star besides the sun is 4.2 light years away? That means if we could travel the speed of light, it would still take over four years to get there. It would take the fastest spacecraft on earth more than 70,000 years to get there."
"Wow. That's amazing. Don't sign me up for that journey. I don't think I'd make it."
Ruth laughed. "No, I don't think you would. Do you know how many stars there are in just our galaxy?"
"No. How many are there?"
"About 300 billion; and there are hundreds of billions of galaxies."
"That's a lot of stars all right," Bethany said. "Hey, Didn't God tell Abraham to count the stars?"
"He sure did. In Genesis, God told Abraham to count the stars, and then told him that's how many descendents he'd have. And at that point he didn't have any children at all."
"That took a lot of trust on Abraham's part, to believe that, didn't it?"
"Yeah."
The girls laid in silence for a bit.
"Hey, Ruth, what's the really bright star right there?" Bethany asked, pointing to the sky.
"I can't see where you're pointing, but I think I know which one you're talking about. It's probably one of the planets, not a star. But I'm not sure. Did you know the biggest star, if placed where our sun is now, would reach to Saturn's orbit? It's over 1,000 times bigger than the sun."
"Now that's big. We'd be fried."
"To say the least." Ruth paused for a minute before continuing. "It's so peaceful here."
"I know. I love the mountain scenery too. I wish I could live here forever."
"Yeah. Everything just seems so different out here. It's like we've been transported to a new world."
"I like to think God is meeting us through His creation. I feel closer to Him when I'm out here, away from it all and looking at all of His creation," Bethany said.
"That's a perfect way to say it. Sometimes I think creation itself is singing His praises."
"Isn't God's creation outstanding?"
"And beautiful," Ruth added.
"Outstanding beauty."
"The heavens declare the glory of God," Ruth quoted.
"The whole earth is filled with His glory," Bethany added.
The girls held hands and laid in silence once again, before finishing their short prayer together. "Amen and amen."
