O’er sleepy evening garden walls
Stompers of those grapes of wrath
Run pell-mell to find a bath
But never make the color gone
Though they scrub from dusk to dawn
It’s part of life they must abide
There’s no way out, they cannot hide
You’d think some smart one would have seen
A way to keep their tootsies clean
At least some boots or socks of plastic
Would help them out and look fantastic
It’s not for me to wonder why
Any grape thing acts like dye
And every time you fuss to dine
And drink (or sip) fruit of the vine
A spill will happen--you can’t stop it
Keep soda near so you can mop it
They say like magic out goes tint
But is it worth the work time spent
Why not just set your fancy plates
On purple cloth your sister hates
The soil won’t show that ugly spotting
And saves you from some useless blotting
If we were wrapped in crisp white linen
And purple ooze revealed our sinning
Would we rush to clean the stain
Or blend it in and lie like Cain
We often hope it doesn’t show
The dirt we reap when dirt we sow
The taint that sticks –you do the math
There comes a time we’ll need a bath
Like all the ones who squish that fruit
Between their toes –without one boot
Or grape juice on that new white rug
The kids spill from some tippy mug
The point is in this purple prose
It’s hard to wash from stuff and clothes
Though tasty and a lovely hue
Like SIN,
It might just get the best of you.
