Leaving early from my dad’s
Heading home to get some sleep
Early schedule I must keep
Kids are moping, looking sad
Trav’ling down the country trail
Toward the city lights ahead
Childhood mem’ries fill my head
Visions flash in great detail
Dad would wait ‘til after dark
In the car we both would climb
Always such a special time
Light the Christmas spirit spark
Heading up the mountain road
Driving ‘round on winter nights
Gazing at the Christmas lights
In the city down below
We’d sing carols in the car
Moving slow along the butte
Glim’ring houses so minute
Like a billion twinkling stars
Hues of blue and red and green
Shining from the valley floor
How it made my spirit soar
Such a dazzling Christmas scene
Thinking ‘bout my childhood thrills
Wond’ring if my boys would care
I drive past the city glare
And head off into the hills

Probably just me, but I found myself stumbling over your ABBA rhyme scheme. Kept wanting it to be ABAB (LOL must be the legalist in me!).
Lovely.
