Keepers of the Law were the Levites, Judges, Elders, and Pharisees.
They were loveless laws; breaking them could result in the death penalty.
Impossible to perfectly keep by imperfect mankind.
To atone for sins, animals were burnt on altars made as prescribed
In tabernacles made of wood and bronze.
Still, that did not stop the sins or change cruel hearts.
For no human was perfect nor sinless.
“Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things,
.. which are written in the book of the law to do them” {Galatians 3:10}.
The Creator knew that the Law had failed but had a better plan.
The Law had to be annulled by something greater.
Greater than Law and rules was Love.
‘God so loved the world….’. He’s a God of Love.
In His Omniscience, God possesses total, infinite, and perfect knowledge, and, as The Creator of mankind, He knows that Love is the Key to saving His world.
If we love our neigbours there would be no wars between families, countries, or nations. Unborn babies and disabled people would not be ‘legally’ killed because of their inconvenience; disguised as free will. If we love our neighbors, we will feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and heal the sick.
Street and gang crimes would disappear, as would gun sales. Homeless people would be sheltered. Addictive drugs would not be sold or prescribed.
Sexually perverted ideas would not be allowed to fill the media and be put in movies.
Instead, Christian preachers and missionaries with willing hands and hearts would share God’s Truth to all nations. Disaster created by storms, hurricanes, tornados and bombs would be repaired by willing hands, in order to rebuild homes and towns.
My neighbor is any living person; thus, people of all races, tribes, and tongues. So how do we love our neighbor? In Jesus’s case, loving meant being punished on a cruel cross for sins he did not commit for the salvation of all. He died for you and me. He was beaten with a heavy Roman whip made up of multiple leather strands woven with small lead balls and sharp pieces of sheep bone. So, He was ‘Beaten with nails and had his beautiful flesh torn and disfigured’.
‘His appearance was so disfigured that He did not look like a human. {Isaiah 52:14}...Then he was held on the cross by cruel nails pounded into his perfect hands and feet. Jesus loved us.
We are all neighbors, even when we live thousands of miles from each other. “Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Love, therefore, is the fulfillment of the law” {Romans 13:10]. Imagine the pain he was in.
He showed it by His actions, and therefore He earned the right to say “ Love your neighbor, as you love yourself” {Mark 12:31}
