“Well Jazzy, if and when you decide to follow Christ by believing in Him, you will change. All your life, in church and at home, you have heard that Jesus as the Son of God is Perfect. So, while it is not possible for anyone to be perfect, because we are humans, God calls us to be more like Jesus. This process of becoming more like Christ is called sanctification.
He turned his attention to the church group;
“People, if you follow Christ, you were set apart by God for His special Holy purpose and transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ when you willingly, by faith, gave your life to Him. By His Holy Spirit, He has made you holy. Your daily choice is to live lives that are separate from sin and the sinful evil ways of the world. Being holy is daily pursuing a set-apart life of holiness that reflects His character in your conduct and departure from unholiness.
A holy life dedicated to God is a progressive work of grace that happens throughout a believer's life, following their initial justification. This life includes spending time in His Word, worshipping The Lord with music and hymns, attending church where you fellowship with fellow believers, and loving your neighbors. As Paul said, “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. {Hebrews 12:14}.
Accepting Jesus as our Saviour means we are dead to sin. "Our old self was crucified with Him."... meaning that we now identify with Christ’s death, so the person we were before salvation, controlled by the sinful nature, died with Him. {Romans 6:6-7].
Therefore, God’s people are sometimes said to be sanctified because they are set apart for God’s special purposes in the world: “Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy; for I am the LORD your God. Keep my statutes, and do them; I am the LORD who sanctifies you” (Leviticus 20:7-8).
Our new self now lives a new life. So, it is true that when God sanctifies us, He makes us holy and sets us apart. ‘He puts a “righteous” stamp on us; He takes away our “sinful” label and replaces it with a “righteous” one. He cleaned us of sin, and puts a new label on us. You are now a child of God.
To justify is to change something’s label from “wrong” to “right.” This is a one-time event; once God justifies a person, the “sinful” label is thrown away forever!!
So, having been freed, believers are now able to live a new life by offering themselves to God rather than to sin. The Holy Spirit who indwells us will guide us and act as a counselor, living within us and enabling understanding of The Bible. He also provides us with the strength to overcome sin and do the will of God.
