Concepts like New Creation, New Life in Christ, and New Covenant are all life-shaking Biblical teachings.
About the Old Covenants that God made, He made a solemn, binding agreement with men in the Bible. He made one with Abraham and His people, the Israelites,in order for them to be a great nation and Godly. The blood of bulls and goats, keeping the Law, obeying the Ten God's foundational promise to Abraham, outlined in Genesis, guaranteeing him a great nation, a promised land (Canaan), countless descendants (posterity), a great name, and that all families on Earth would be blessed through him and his seed, establishing a relationship for Israel and the world, including spiritual blessings like the Gospel and Priesthood for all nations, not just physical descendants were temporary measures for sin removal. Disobedience meant punishment. {1 Samuel 12:14-15}.
There were other Covenants made with Noah, Moses and David.
Today we're looking at The Abrahamic one.
God The Father, determined at a predestined time to set up a New Way, because the people often broke the Law and failed to keep God’s strict rules; so God’s plan involved another Blood sacrifice. With Mary’s compliance, He used His Only Begotten Son, the second in the Godhead, to bring it about. So, at the right time, He sent His son Jesus, to be born as a human to set humans free from the dominion of sins.
No animals this time, but instead, A Perfect Human had to die. His Son, born of a virgin, was The Way. {Matthew 5:17, Galatians 6:15}
Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant, Old Testament law, and the Prophets. External laws, rules and regulations gave way to heart change. The Law was detremind to be a shadow of things to come. {Hebrews 10:1, Hebrews 8:6}. “But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises”.
The Old Covenant was replete with rituals and custodial rules. God delivered us through His Only Son, born under Jewish law, as a once and for all sacrifice and justification by faith. Faith involved using your will to choose to believe Him, and to accept Him as Saviour, and thus becoming sons of God (Galatians 4:4-5,26}.
The New Covenant transcends
{1} Race - Gentiles are included.
{2} Status -slaves and freemen are accepted,and
{3} Gender- male and female are accepted.
Not by works of the law of Abraham’s promise, but by a gift called Grace, earned for us through Jesus Christ. {Ephesians 2:5-6, 10, 13}. God raised us up with Christ, as He raised Jesus up from the grave. He showed us mercy, and He seated us in heavenly places, In Christ.
In The New Covenant, we are God’s handiwork; created in Christ to do good works which He predordained. We are no longer excluded from citizenship because we are Gentiles. We’ve been brought near through The Blood of Jesus.
His human flesh set aside The Law, Commandments, and regulations, in order to create One New Man who has access to the Father by One Spirit {Ephesians 2:19-23, 10}. Its allll In Christ, with the foundation of apostles, Prophets; and Christ as the Chief Cornerstone.
Imagine a Holy temple being built, and the most important structure is the cornerstone. It’s a temple not made by human hands. As the Chief Cornerstone, we are IN Him, being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit, including Jews and Gentiles.
New Covenant:
. Forgiveness through Christ’s shed blood
. Law of love in our hearts
. Direct access to God through The Holy Spirit and prayer
. Transformation of Believers of all races to live righteously, change internally, and act as God lives in us.
Old Covenant:
. Before Jesus came
. Forgiveness came through animal sacrifice.
. Only open to Jews
. Laws, animal sacrifices, and ceremonies performed by Priests only.
