It's been a few days as she walked to work in the coffee shop that she felt she was being followed. The follower was tall and wore black and if she looked quickly, she saw a man dart sideways. She increased her speed and hurried into her apartment, bolted the doors and windows.
In her mind, she felt sure it was Juno, again. She had escaped his lair weeks ago and moved to another town or maybe he was paying someone to stalk her. Human trafficking was Juno’s business. He had many victims that he sold to men to be used. When she first met him, she was homeless and hungry so she drifted into the lifestyle; but no more, she decided as she lay low on the floor of her room out of sight from the window.
She started to pray earnestly “Father God, please keep me safe and deliver me from evil”. In her heart she wondered; “Should I bolt again, get a train and go back to the mission?”
Bolton Mission for Women Shelter was a safe place that she had run away from months ago.She decided to leave very early the next morning and travel back to it by train. As she took a quick peek out of her window , she saw the male figure standing across the way and looking up at her window.
“I am definitely in danger. I have to bolt again”. Remembering her childhood faith, she started praying again. The train station was about one mile away.
“If I slip out the back door, maybe I can get away”. She summoned up her courage and ran and jogged all the way to the train station. As she ran she kept hearing these words from Psalms 91’
“He will give his angels charge over you” {Psalms 91:11}.
She hastened into the train and three hours later, she arrived at Bolton.
As she hurried out of the station, she looked around and saw that no one was interested in her. There were few people here, anyway.
“Holy God, thanks for keeping me safe”, she prayed thankfully.
She made her way to the Bolton Mission in good time, went around the back, and knocked on the back door. Mother Theresa unbolted and opened the door. She greeted her with a wide smile.
“My dear Serena. We have been praying for you. Welcome back!”
In this place, Serena was safe and felt safe. She had to cooperate and obey the rules, but that was better than being trafficked and abused; it was better than being in danger from Juno.
'No more bolting and running afraid..’ she thought. Daily prayers and housekeeping tasks were a pleasure and not burdensome, and she hoped and prayed that the authorities or the police would find and destroy Juno’s business very soon.
