Since childhood, I have been interested in the Word of God, which has become precious to me as time passes.

I lived with my grandmother, and she would read her Bible every day. She especially loved the Psalms: Psalms 23, 27, and 51. Because she profoundly influenced my life as a child, the Word of God became a part of my daily life. If I hadn't read it, I would surely have heard it on the radio when I got home after school.

I recall when I wanted to be one of the "cool ones" at school. As I was thinking about it, I remembered the Bible and the Word of God. And I said to myself, "If only I could get rid of all the Bibles, then I'll be able to get rid of the Word of God." But then I realized that Jesus is in me. I had asked Him to come into my heart. That thought captured my being; from then on, I thought of life differently.

The Word of God began to change me, inspiring me and providing a new perspective. I would go to church often with my grandmother and listen to the Word preached. Sometimes, I fell asleep, as most children do during the preaching. As a child, I felt the pull to the things of this world, and because I felt safe with my grandmother, her influence remained profound in my life.

There was a season in my life as a young Christian when I feasted daily on the Word of God and discovered, like King David in Psalms 119:11(NKJV), "Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you."

By God's grace, His Word has become a lamp to my feet and a light to my path throughout my years of life, Psalm 119:105 (NKJV).

When I am in the valley of decisions, and fear grips me, the Word of God, 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV), reminds me: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind."

My scripture for direction and guidance and my formula for being a happy Christian is Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV), "In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."

Through it all, I've learned to trust in Jesus, and I have learned to depend on His Word.
