Many years ago, I had a major surgery that caused me to go into depression. I found myself gradually losing sleep, waking up at night feeling sad and cannot sleep back. Eventually, I couldn't sleep and cried much because I was so overwhelmed with my feelings.
I took some time off work because I couldn't handle the customers. It was too much for me. The lack of sleep triggered the depression. So, I started to take antidepressants and sleeping pills as prescribed by my doctors, but I still couldn't sleep nor stop feeling the way I did, but I would still go to church.
One day, I thought I should put my computer desk in my bedroom and listen to sermons on the Eternal God, the same one that led the children of Israel out of Egypt, Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever, from my computer while in bed.
The first night I slept was the first night I listened to a sermon preached on my computer. I fell asleep while listening to the sermon. I don't remember the name of the sermon, but what I do remember is when I became conscious of my surroundings, the preaching of the Word was over. Then I knew I slept.
When I began to sleep, I began to feel better. As I listened to sermons night after night, I drew strength from who God is Jehovah Rapha, the Healer, leaning on His everlasting arms. Thus, I found refuge and strength in Him day by day. Eventually, I stopped using the sleeping pills. By then, I resumed work.
I will never forget the first day I stopped taking antidepressants. My head felt light and had a strange sensation, but I was determined to get off the pill. On the second day, all was well.
I listened to God's Word in bed until I regained my health.
