It felt so good being a modern, compassionate politician. That bill we passed last year is proof of that. From the age of twelve children could have gender-changing hormonal treatments if they wanted to. (Even if their parents disapproved. It is sad to see how many narrow-minded people we still have in this world).
The old days of rigid control of the population are over, thank God! (Oh yes – I assure you I am a very Godly person). Loving people means letting them be the person they feel they want to be. Not just letting – but HELPING them to be that person.
Unfortunately in order to do this we have had to be a little bit strict with those who oppose us for silly little reasons such as it is against the Bible. Don’t they realise how long ago the Bible was written? Way past time to modernise! So we have had to put some in jail, but only for a year or two. We are very lenient.
Then six months ago we permitted children from twelve to have gender-changing operations. We put up a lot of money to ensure teachers were trained to encourage children to do this. It takes a lot of input to overcome parental influence (even in this day and age) when the parents are against it. I was shocked by the reactions of some deluded members of the public. They got together and protested – marching down the streets with banners accusing us of child abuse!
Of course it was necessary to squash this. Even for us, leniency has its limits. The protest leaders are all in jail now and we are keeping a close eye on the rest of the protestors. We will keep an even closer eye on them when the next bill comes out in a few months – that will permit the operations to happen from the age of five. How could any loving person object to an operation that will relieve a child from the burden of growing up with a body they hate? Can’t they see how cruel they are being to innocent children? It is hard to be lenient with such people, but we are very loving, as I am sure you will agree, so we try.
Then I got the news. Very depressing. I will not be voting on that bill – at least probably not. I have a fast-growing, inoperable brain cancer. I will probably be dead by then.
Suddenly I have this awful fear.
Will God be lenient with me?
