I was in my early twenties when I went through a storm of temptation that could have swept me in darkness and disappointment, and great would have been my fall.

A few of us young women were friends walking together as Christians, trying to serve the Lord by attending church every Sunday and sometimes during the week and going to the Young People's meetings, hearing the Word of God repeatedly. But were we doers? "Time told the tale."

Then the test came: attractive young men who were not Christians came into our lives, and we became attractive to them. The battle in the mind began.

Thank God that when I had heard the Word of God spoken by the ministers, I pondered on the Word, and I would read my Bible and seek God in prayer. Because in my heart, I wanted to be a real Christian and do His will. I sincerely wanted to serve Him.

The temptations that were surrounding me were trying to steal my heart away. As King David said in Psalms 119:11 (NKJV), "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You!" That scripture came alive, and I was able to draw from the Word of God within me to overcome the wiles of the enemy.

My friends gave up in their hour of temptation and returned to the world of sin and shame. Eventually, their lives became a mess. They became unstable in their ways, fickle-minded, and made impulsive decisions. As the Bible said, "… but the way of the transgressor is hard." Proverbs 13:15 (KJV).

So, it is not enough for us to hear the Word of God; we must be doers of the Word to be like the wise man who built his house upon a rock.

When we don't adhere to the Word of God, we are like the man who built his house on the sand, so when the storm of life comes and beats upon that house, great is the fall of it.
