Topic: New Patch/New Wine - Old Garment/Bottle (Matthew 9:16-17, Mark 2:21-22, Luke 5:36-39} (01/04/24)
I remember hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ and how happy I felt when I accepted the Lord into my life. But my happiness didn't last long because I wanted to continue my old ways and still believe I was a Christian. I tried to patch up my life instead of changing it.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is something new, and it changes you. It doesn't patch you up because it doesn't mix with the old you. The Bible tells us, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17(NKJV).

Jesus spoke this parable, and I am reminded of it: "No one puts a piece from a new garment on an old one; otherwise, the new makes a tear, and the piece that was taken out of the new does not match the old, Luke 5:36 (NKJV). Jesus showed us the contrast between the old and new; verse 37 also tells us about the new wine in old wineskins. "And no one puts new wine into old wineskins, or else the new wine burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. And this scripture gives us an understanding of the old covenant and the new. The old covenant was under Mosaic law, and the new covenant was under grace and mercy through Jesus Christ.

It was hard for me to let go of my religious traditions. I grew up believing them and tried to mix them with my newfound life, but the attempt was disastrous. I struggled daily to live this Christian life because I was still holding on to the old covenant and trying to mix it with the new. Jesus didn't come to put a facelift on the old covenant. He would have a new thing.

In Ezekiel 36:26 (NKJV), "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."

Jesus forgave me of my sins and placed within me a new heart and spirit to believe His Word, and now I am walking in the newness of life.
