Sophia was a young barmaid and loved the good life.
At twenty-five, she was single and doing whatever she wanted to do.
On a short flight one day, she sat next to a handsome man.
“Hi, I'm Sophie,” she said with a smile.
“My name is Joel,” he said.
He was polite and she found herself drawn to him.

On the journey, they started talking.
“So what do you do for a living?” she asked.
“I am a Pastor of Faith Baptist Church,” he responded.
“Well, you would not be a visitor to my bar, would you?” she said with a smile.
“Are you going to preach to me, then?” she continued…

“Well Sophie, I do wish to invite you to our church. Come any Sunday at 10.00 am. Bring your friends too.” he said warmly.

Sophie never came to his church, but deep down she felt a connection to Joel.

Interestingly, one day, a few weeks later, she ran into Joel at a cafe on the high street.
“Hi Joel, it's good to see you,” she said with a beaming smile.
They sat together and had a coffee. This time, Joel included his faith in Christ in the conversation, and he found out that Sophie grew up in foster homes and never knew her real parents.
Joel reiterated his invitation to her to come to church.
He also decided to make her a prayer project and he asked two of the female deacons to add her to their prayer list.

The next Sunday Sophie came to church.

Joel liked Sophie but knew that it could go no further.
She was not a Christian, and based on his prayers, The Bible, and the advice from elders, he knew that they could not have a personal relationship.
The advice he got was, that, based on his identity he could not.
As Elder Jonathan said; “Joel, your identity as a child of God makes you a new creature. You are like a new unshrunk cloth, and cannot be attached to a person who is not a new creature and therefore an old patch”
“No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made.” {Matthew 9:16}.

“This simply means that a follower of Christ cannot marry someone who is not. That is a recipe for disaster. They are not compatible” he concluded..

Thereafter, whenever Sophie came to church, the two women would spend time with her. They invited her to group outings and she grew spiritually.
Eventually and over time, Sophie’s life changed for the better.

Joel did not ever pursue a personal relationship with her.
He did not believe that it was God’s plan for his life.
