Shoppers leaving the store hastened to their cars and avoided contact with them.
As for me, the youngest ones tugged at my heartstrings.
“Oh Lord” I prayed, “what do I do?”
The verse came into my mind;
“Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble….”{Isaiah 58:10 NLT}
I made a step towards them but a couple of women went towards them and very quickly, they seemed to create a different ambiance.
I heard the words ‘homeless shelter’ as I walked by.
Looking back I saw another couple reach into bags and give the family snacks. Soon they were all seated on the nearby bench eating.
I hung around and asked the couple with the food if there was anything I could do to help.
“No, dear,” she said “Transportation is on the way to take them to a shelter. Our church runs ‘The Shelter of Hope’ and it's all arranged,” she said with a smile. “I could not resist their pleading eyes either” she continued.
“It seems that through a series of unfortunate events, they have lost their home and have nowhere to go.”
My prayer for that family is that they will regain all they have lost
and I planned to talk to my friends about how I saw Christians loving their neighbors.
