They were going to visit an old farmhouse in the country and have a picnic there. Two of them were chatting about the garden's beauty while they were going to join the others for the trip. The young man's parents owned the house, and he was telling his friend about the old oak tree, and under that tree, he got his first kiss. And that surprised her because he was always singing and playing the guitar.
"Who would have thought that our Paola was so romantic," she said, amazed.
His eyes opened wide, and he looked at her and yelled, "Are you making fun of me?"
"No, definitely not. I bet this enchanted house has been the source of most of your musical inspiration."
"How did you know that?" he responded gently.
Considering that it doesn't take much to inspire you. I can imagine what a paradise can do...."
The outcome might not have been positive if she didn't respond with words that appealed to his musical passion. She created a positive atmosphere, and when they met the others, they were all excited to go on the trip to the old farmhouse.
As I thought of that scene, I thought of the times I could have changed the atmosphere in my home with a soft word when spoken roughly to by one of my family members. But instead, I lashed out with unkind words because of pride.
Looking back, it was those times when I failed to pray when I failed to ask for God's guidance and strength for the day.
When we pray, our mindset changes. In the presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ, our reactions to life situations become positive.
