Proverbs 15:1 The Message

I used to hate it when my husband and I got into a spat. I would walk away so I wouldn’t say something that I might regret.

I now realize that wasn’t necessarily a bad action. It is better to stay quiet and calm down and approach later when both parties are more apt to listen to the other's point of view.

When I look around me I can only think about how many people are speaking with no regard to another’s perspective and that they just don’t care. They are totally walking in their egos and let their tempers flare if we oppose their belief systems.

This is when we reply with a gentle answer or turn away. We don’t want to feed their fiery furnaces, but rather distinguish them.

“5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.” James 3:5-10 ESV

This scripture definitely shows how we need to think before we speak and like a horse put a ‘bit’ or ‘bridle’ in our mouth.

Prayer:
Abba,
Help us to be aware of our words and actions before we say or do something. Let us be led by the Holy Spirit and not by our egos.
In Jesus name. Amen.
