FINDING JOY
PART I: THE JOYFUL HEART
We all know times of happiness. Just as true, we know the sad.
We benefit by both in life, each one reveals the other side.
The sadness comes from losses, the failures and the griefs.
It weighs heavily on our souls causing us to cry out for relief.
There’s deeper sadness also, which dries up even bones,
And leaves them bleaching in the sun, causing us to wish life was done.
Israel was hopeless in its exile, unable to find their joyous hearts.
Only God could bring them life, give their nation a new start.
Ezekiel, the man of God, urged them of follow God’s plan.
Obey and trust in Him he said, sometimes that’s all we can.
A joyous heart grows from within, from beauty and the love we give.
Or when our dreams come true, or accomplishments we live.
A smile, a surprise, a forward bent will lighten every day.
To pray and read the Word of God will propel us on our way.
Yes, the medicine of a merry heart can give us times of joy
That lasts however long it lasts, and leads us to future glory.
PART II: THE ETERNALLY JOYFUL HEART
As we move along life’s journey
We can dance as in a stream,
Skipping over rocks and stones,
Gathering up our steam.
What happens in the stream of life
When knowing Jesus is our God,
Is that guidance and deep-felt peace
Become their own reward.
Excitement could be felt by all
As the stream follows its own course.
The joyous squeals up ahead
Foretell of joy in fullest force.
Grander than what came before
Comes what is next—-eternity,
Where the merry heart is found
In that eternal heavenly city.
Then suddenly, yet at last,
Each water drop freely fell,
Careened into the glorious falls
Flying wildly with victorious yell.
Not knowing where they’d go
Was not their first concern.
They trusted their Creator’s plan
To whom they now returned.
They crashed below and splashed about,
They gave applause in wild shout.
They ricocheted off rocks and trees.
And came to know what life’s about.
What wonders awaited them
We cannot know.
We only know that we will follow
When it’s time for us to go.
Our last sad days will disappear
As we leave behind all sorrow,
And know we have been made anew
To live again tomorrow.
