She had sewn women’s clothing all her life as a hobby.
Her business motto was “Dressing Appropriately”, she said to her husband Horatio.
“My inner thoughts are that what you are wearing depends on two things. One is ‘where you are going?’ and the other is ‘who you are.” she added. So, if you are going to the store for a walk, to church, to a job interview, to work at the office, it matters what you wear” she continued.
Her mindset was that dress codes were either formal or casual.
She advertised and set up an online site. Her customers included employers at local firms and local hospitals. They asked her to do orientation talks to new employees on what professional dressing meant and she focused her talk on what the pros and cons of certain dress codes said to clients. Adhering to the uniform code and making that a priority.
Her talk included this statement; “In order to show your clients that you are a professional and that they could rely on you, certain clothing items are to be worn and others not”
She showed examples of proper clothing and gave out simple flyers. Discussion was allowed.
In her opinion, the negative aspect of dress codes is that some people in an effort to delude, would steal and wear uniforms, then perform acts that were unlawful.
At home, Sue Ann and Horatio found that they had to ‘do the talk’ to their two preteen girls about dressing modestly. She remembered how as a teenager in the church youth group, the topic of modesty frequently came up. It was also spoken of in sermons by the pastor.
Recently she said to Horatio “Modesty seems not to be a global goal in our western culture anymore. Women in movies, fashion shows, and even in the Oscars, display shocking levels of nudity ….And even in the supermarket, I am amazed at how revealing some customers’ outfits are!!” Sue Ann felt that the Western media had brainwashed young women, and shared that with him.
In her studies on the topic, she delved into what The Word said.
Yes, The Bible addresses the issue when Paul wrote “ I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety..”{1Timothy 2:9}.
Depending on the setting, Sue Ann would highlight in her talks that there is physical and spiritual clothing. Paul describes spiritual clothing or armour that all followers of Christ must wear in order to be strong in the battles they face... It is called the Armour of God.{Ephesians 6:12-18}. It must never take it off! It must be worn at all times!
She would draw attention to the urgency of this verse.
“The armor of God represents the seven defenses that we must take in our spiritual lives. The Bible tells us that we are fighting a war against Satan, who seeks to destroy us. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” Ephesians 6:12}..
The Lord God knew that we would need to wear this protective clothing. As soldiers of Christ, we are in a spiritual warfare; “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does”. {2 Corinthians 10:3}
Instructions are clearly stated by Paul “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand” {Ephesians 6:13}.
This Glorious seven fold outfit or armour includes-
*A belt of truth buckled around your waist
*A breastplate of righteousness,
*Feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
*The shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. *The helmet of salvation and
*The sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
And praying in the Spirit, on all occasions, with all kinds of prayers and requests. {Ephesians 6:14-18}.
