He knew what was coming. It had to come.
His three friends were asleep. Such deep sorrow filled his soul. {Matthew 26:37}
He had come for this purpose and He had to walk through this alone.
In the garden of Gethsemane, The Holy Spirit and angels comforted Him but He knew that this was prophesied and for this, He came as a man.
The betrayal was not a shock to Him. He was ready to give all for the restoration and salvation of humanity.
The hours of inhuman cruelty at the hands of Roman soldiers were hard on His flesh. He was hit repeatedly and treated like the worst criminal.
Brought before Pilate, there was no one to defend Him.
Judged as an evildoer {John 18:24, 12:47}. The crowd rejected Him for an evil man. Stripped, scourged, and beaten with cruel whips that tore his skin. He was unrecognizable.
The cruel thorns on the fake crown tore into his flesh, adding to the blood flow. {John 19:14-15}.
Hanging on the cross alone, He was already wounded and the nail that tore into his feet and hands as he hung there above was beyond agonizing.
He felt abandoned by Father {Matthew 27:46}; “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” were torn from his dying mouth. In that moment, He felt that both the Father and the Holy Spirit had left Him. In moments of terror, we often feel alone but followers of Christ, remember that He never leaves us nor forsakes us. {Joshua1:5, Deuteronomy 31:8}.
The stripes and torture were to set us free!
Today, Our Redeemer is with His Father and He sits on the Throne where we are promised to be one day!!
He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. {Revelation 3:21}
