Thoughts returned to him of a time when he did fall in and almost drowned, but his father jumped in and saved him. Swimming lessons were in progress but his disability was hampering him. He was born blind.
The next time he had lessons, he decided to pray. He asked Jesus to help him..
‘Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge.’ Psalm 16:1.
His experience was incredible. Somehow he knew that he was safe. He felt weightless and moved his arms vigorously in the breaststrokes that he had been taught. He made excellent progress. In his ear he could hear his parents encouraging him;”Go Sam! Go Sam!” In his heart and soul, he felt the joy of the Lord as he progressed.
Later, as he talked with his parents, thoughts came to him that sometimes life is like swimming. He shared his thoughts with them. Calm waters and buoyancy are like the easy days of life. Turbulent waters, high tides and episodic submersion speak of the difficult days. Some swimmers use life jackets which are a type of the armour of God. The voice of encouragers reminded him of the way the Holy Spirit and The Word can drop wisdom into your soul when you are in difficulty. The knowledge that angels guard us is phenomenal.
Psalms 91:11-12a says ‘For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. In their hands, they shall ]bear you up,..’
Another option is to stay out of the water; meaning stay out of the daily swim or the daily walk with the Lord. As Christians, that is not an option.
