Topic: PICNIC (07/14/22)
They said it was going to be a piece of cake. Just go in and grab it they said. Sure. Yeah, right. Then the alarms started blaring and I was being handcuffed. I was only a kid! My parents left and never looked back.

Some role models they turned out to be and now what was I supposed to do?

I’m really scared. I was questioned by the police and ended up in the foster system since my parents were no longer on the scene. The first couple of homes I was in I left or I should say ran away from as they were no better than my parents. Finally, my caseworker, found a home run by a law abiding family.

The husband, Phil, worked for the police force and his wife, Sarah, was a school teacher. No children of their own, but one other foster child named Tim.

One day, we all went on a picnic. This was the first time I have ever been on a picnic or anything resembling true family time. My heart began to swell with feelings I was finding hard to comprehend. Then the tears started. Tim took my hand and told me he understood. He said he had gone through the same thing. Then Phil and Sarah both embraced me and spoke to me about unconditional love and more importantly about Gods love.

They spoke of the story of Jesus and Calvary. How Jesus went to the cross and bore our sins for us.

I cannot say that I grasped onto it all at once, but as time went on and continually going to church and youth meetings truth began to spring forth.

Then there was that V8 moment when I realized what I had been hearing was true. It was all true! God loved me! Jesus loves me! Not only in the New Testament does it speak of it, but also the Old Testament. I am overwhelmed! I fell to my knees and wept. The youth pastor came over and knelt and prayed with me. I felt, I don’t know – new. Yes, that is it – new! I was given a new life.

Phil and Sarah, eventually adopted Tim and me and we became a family. It is wonderful!

As for my real parents they were eventually apprehended for many crimes and I’m sorry to say even man-slaughter. I have forgiven them long ago and I pray they come to know Jesus.

Years later I followed in Phils footsteps and became a police officer to and Tim became a youth counselor.

It is hard to believe that a simple thing like a picnic could change the course of one’s life.

(This story is purely fictional, but
it surely speaks of so many broken children because of poor parenting and lack of guidance. More important then that. The lack of God in society also serves a major role. Social influence makes a difference. We need to bring Jesus and moral standards back into the schools and society.)

For God so loved the world- and even a little boy named Benjamin. There are many Benjamins that could use a faithful picnic family. well done.

Benjamin is well constructed and flowed smoothly.

Benjamin goes from parents who have him committing a crime to parents learning about Jesus at a picnic.

I like how you showed Benjamin going from being abandoned to being embraced by love.
