Of all the teachers in the school she not only disliked but ‘hated’ Mr Booomin Voice’s loudly aggressive manner with his young students. “He gets good results so he is kept on. No one stands up to him!” said the schoolmaster frequently, when asked by concerned parents.
Fear ruled. His whip had a long reach. Years later Trina reflected on those years and decided to forgive him. She was glad that she and others had moved on and found kind, gentle and in charge teachers. She learnt from them that it is possible to be in charge and yet kind.
Resisting domination is hard. At church, Trina’s pastor often spoke of being subject to elders and leaders and submitting to them. “Obey your leaders and follow their orders…”. {Hebrews 13:17}. Trina asked him, “As a Christian, who should I obey or submit to?”
‘What is the answer?’ she pondered quietly.
The pastor explained to her that there are always some evil leaders and rulers but then there is the perfect alternative, who is God Almighty. The alternative to domination by evil comes to us through Christ.
Christ’s power came from The Father who is good. “But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God”
[1 Corinthians 11:3).
"And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone." {Matt 10:18}. Matthew also wrote “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in the earth. He had power which he gives to His followers”{ Matthew 28:18}. Jesus cast out devils, healed the sick, walked on water and loved his neighbours. He knew that He would leave the earth and would pass on power to His followers. Their authority would enable them to do good on the earth.
“Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick” {Luke 9:1-2}. Even in marriages, there are two people; one, the female must submit to the leadership of the man.{Galatians 3:28}.
In Trina’s life, there were two teachers. They were both leaders but what a difference! One, Mr Booming Voice used his power to dominate and create fear, while the other Miss Anita, created love, peace and joy. On earth, there is a war between two kingdoms. The enemy uses his power to dominate and create death, fear and disease, while in The Kingdom of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit create love, joy and peace.
