On rare occasions, she would take them out and wear them. Occasions like her daughters’ weddings and whenever she attended a formal palace function. Cecilia and Mable knew that they would inherit these beauties one day but were sworn to secrecy and could never reveal their location to anyone. For many years they kept that promise.
Things changed in the family when Mable married Josh. He was an abusive and lazy man who lied and stole whenever he could, but Mable loved him. As you can imagine, she eventually revealed the family secret to him. Cecilia was heartbroken when she learned of this and even more so when she discovered that the safe had been broken into.
In haste, she hired a private detective. She was determined to trace and find her family's jewellery.
It took weeks but eventually, they were found but a hefty sum had to be paid to redeem them.
To her, it was worth it. She sold, begged and borrowed and was able to come up with the money.
Another good result of this was that Mable came to her senses about Josh.
Cecilia also did something that she had not done in a while, she started to pray and go to church. Pastor Jim was very Biblical in his sermons and that inspired her to read and study her Bible daily. She became involved in her church and attended weekly book studies.
The book studies dealt with many Biblical topics and the one that interested her keenly was that of redemption.
According to Paul, the apostle, Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law, and the price He paid was His Life. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree. He redeemed us in order that the blessing promised to Abraham would come to the Gentiles… [Ephesians 3:13}.
That joyful truth made a deeper impact when she reflected on the price she had to pay to regain the family jewellery; so too, Jesus paid the price of regaining precious mankind from the curse of the law and the price was choosing to obey His Father and be cruelly punished, tortured and crucified. So now, we humans have been redeemed or bought back through the blood of a perfect sinless Man. In Him, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace {Ephesians 1:7}.
An interesting beautiful thing happened to Mabel, she too started to attend church and her life changed.
