The location is ancient.
At the bench sits the judge.
Dressed in black robes, he is stern and unsmiling.
The selected jury sits ready with unsmiling faces.
They are ready to listen and ominously still.
The court reporter is equipped.
“They are guilty!” said the accuser to the lawyers, the Pharisees and the scribes.No defence is available. There is no one to stand in the gap.
The judgement is quickly passed. The jury can smile now.
The sinners are dumbfounded. Animal sacrifices did not remit or set them free.
All that blood, burnt offerings and obedience were for nothing.
The sinners are in view now,
Look, there are hundreds of them!
Such sadness and hopelessness prevail!
Then in comes Isaiah with his message of a deliver;
“Here is my servant, whom I uphold,my chosen one in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations”.{Isaiah 42:1}.
It is not over. Something has changed!
An event in a village not far away has shaken things up.
The judge has lost his power and all heads are turned.
The scenery has changed.
A child is born. His mother is a virgin!
He is called The Messiah.
The chosen One is All-Powerful.
The Perfect Son of God is on earth. The Kingdom has come.
In this courtroom, there are many sinners, but no judges and no fear.
For God has sent His Son. He took all the guilt. He became the sacrifice.
“He bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds, you have been healed.” then He rose from the dead.
{1 Peter 2:4}.
Only Believe. The Kingdom is here to stay.
It brought His will to earth. Eternity is now joyous hope-filled anticipation.
There will be another judgement one day and it will be final.
In this courtroom, He will sit on His Throne and separate the good from evil, or the sheep from the goats.
“And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:..”
{Matthew 25:34}
In His Kingdom, our eternity is with Christ.
“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body”
{Phillipians 3: 20-21}.
