The wall in front of me is solid black, and I can't remember my hopes and dreams. Did I even have any? I don't know.
I can't see anything clearly, and I have nothing to say.
I can't think of anything to do, and I have no ideas to write about. Who would want to read anything from me, anyway?
Living in the box is comfortable, or at least familiar. Besides, I could always take a nap. There are no worries, no responsibilities, and no joy in sleep."
That was my journal entry from a day last month. Such was my heart until I asked for help.
"Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety." (Proverbs 11:14 NKJV)
Wise counsel from a friend uncovered the root cause of the box: I had not kept my heart, and an idol gripped me. An idol is anything we put before God. It was the idol in my mind and heart that built the walls. The Word tells us:
"Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life." (Proverbs 4:23 NKJV)
My friend and I prayed together and, crash! The walls fell.
My hopes and dreams were instantly alive; I saw clearly and had much to say. There was so much to do and many ideas that I needed to record. I was joyful again, and I enjoyed the responsibilities and the work.
The lesson for you and me is this:
"Little children, keep yourselves from idols." (1 John 5:21 NKJV)
Jesus is Lord of lords and King of kings. Nothing can ever come before God in our hearts!
