It is reported that Benjamin Franklin often said
“Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today.” An excellent piece of advice and a good motto for those of us who have a tendency to procrastinate. We do not know what tomorrow will bring so do ‘it’ today. Yes, start. Take one step at a time.

Solomon in his God-given wisdom warns about counting on tomorrow since we did not know what it would bring. or even if we would be alive then. “Don’t put it off; do it now! Don’t rest until you do.” {Proverbs 6:4}.

I grew up in a large household and we had chores. I remember being aggravated by one younger sister in particular. Her favourite line was “I’ll do it tomorrow.” She was usually too busy reading a good book to care that her daily chores were undone. As her older sister, I would often do what she had not done because I did not want our hardworking parents to be stressed and upset about the dirty dishes, the unclean floor of our home, or the unwashed laundry.

As adults, many of us have learnt the hard way what procrastination produces; such as loss of jobs and opportunities. Looking on, as others step forward because we pondered.

In life, we should not put off important things until tomorrow because we do not know what it holds. Such things as apologising, forgiving others, showing love to neighbours, smiling, being happy, dreaming and eating chocolates should not be delayed.

Paul wrote to the Corinthians “Now is the day of salvation.” {2 Corinthians 6:2} Taking this advice further we must see that today is the acceptable day to accept Jesus as our Saviour because we are not promised tomorrow. In this arena, we live in time. We are given one day at a time. When we die there will be no more time; we will be in the realm of eternity. According to the Bible, eternity may be spent with the Lord, or not - it’s a choice.

At the age of nine, I accepted Jesus as my Saviour. I accepted His offer of eternal life with Him. We should never procrastinate on the salvation option. Despite the trials and failures in life, we should never cease to start; using wisdom from the Holy Spirit, prayers and wise counselling.

Well said. Look to your left. A fellow traveller is riding alongside. I must admit to my share of procrastination but even thinking, reading, and writing on this topic has spurred me on.

Wow! Excellently crafted. Your style, content, 'topicality, diction are all good. Salvation eluded me for 53 years because I had given preconditions to God! I suffered from a ''scientific God mentality.
Either God, Himself, Jesus, Angel Gabriel must appear to me physically or in a dream and tell me to get saved and I would because of the evidence. Failing that, I demanded Pauline type of experience on Damascus Road...Let me spare you with details found in The Hour of Reckoning which awaits anyone who does not get saved today waiting for tomorrow which may be too late.

Great message! While not a procrastinator exactly, I sometimes put things off that I shouldn’t. I think we can all relate.

What a great reminder for those who have already accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, to take every opportunity to share Jesus with others today, and not put it off until tomorrow.
