Topic: SELF-CONTROL (12/09/21)
Every year, around this time, people begin to think about their New Year’s Resolutions. I for one never make any because I refuse to set myself up for failure nor do I want to break it. You see a resolution is the same as a vow which should never be broken. Once you pledge to do something you must follow it through to completion.

“When you vow a vow before God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.” (Ecclesiastes 5:4 ESV)

“But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.” (Matt. 5:37 KJV)

“Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.” (Matt. 5:37 ESV)

Rather then aspiring to change myself I prefer to strive to be the spiritual being God created me to be.

I don’t want to loose control. I want to demonstrate my love by walking hand in hand with the Holy Spirit. Remaining peaceful. Sure I will stumble, but if I remain faithful and not allow my ego to control me then once again I will be on the right path.

I know if I say I’m going to give this particular thing up say for a week (especially dark chocolate) that I will ultimately fail. Someone else may want to loose so many pounds by a certain date. These things in themselves are not bad, but a resolution/vow is still just that and should not be broken.

It is better to use wisdom and in my case cut back on how much dark chocolate I buy and consume. Someone addicted to shopping needs to step back and say I allocate this much per month.

It comes down to life choices. A healthy lifestyle can help you maintain a healthy balance in your mental and spiritual life too.

You’ve taken the words right out of my finger tips :).
Although I feel I may now need the more sobering interpretation of the word resolution - since almost every morning I set out with fresh resolve and ambition. After reading your submission I will take the concept of a vow along to my precious time with Him and look at it afresh.
