My husband and I went to dinner with his brother and sister-in-law. We had a delightful time sharing and relaxing.
When we left the restaurant, my husband was distraught about how I had offended them. What? I had no idea! He said that when I asked him to pray over our meal, it was a major offense to them because, unbeknownst to me, they had already silently prayed. He accused me of offending them by not accepting their prayer and slapping their religion in the face. I told him that I did not realize or intend that, but he would not hear me. He continued to demean me for being offensive, uncaring, and unaware.
Usually, it is a horrible, humiliating thing when my husband is angry with me. He presents a volatile persona and berates me to the very core of my being. Here is the fantastic thing: amidst his accusations, I remained at peace this time.
Indeed, I had not intended any offense, so I contacted both his brother and sister-in-law and apologized. Hark! They were not offended and did not know what he was referring to either.
I keenly know the feeling when I have sinned, and it is terrible. Such a thing requires repentance and restitution before peace can be re-established in my heart. I was at peace in this instance because my heart did not condemn me. I went to the Word and reread this:
“Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.” (1 John 3:21 NKJV)
You and I know if we have done wrong, and if we belong to Jesus, we know we must do whatever is necessary to make it right. But Hallelujah, if our heart does not condemn us, we are ok with God! Let us yield our every thought and action to Him. As long as we are right with Him, what others say or do, or accuse us of is not valid. Our peace remains because it is in Him. Such is my confidence. Be sure it is yours too.

My only constructive feedback is that there was some “telling” … a scene with dialog, and building tension, may have had a stronger impact.
