“Sure bubbas, you want to start, or should I?” I glance one eye in the rearview mirror to meet his probing gaze.
“Hmmm,” he considers out loud for a moment, “you first.”
With a bit of Holy Spirit anointing, I began “Once upon a time, long ago in ancient history, there was this amazing Man about your daddy's age, who walked around the country with his twelve friends…”
Brodyn excitedly interrupts, “You mean Jesus huh?” I glance back, meeting his big toothless smile with my ear-to-ear grin and respond, “yes bubba and as Jesus was walking around with his friends do you know what He used to do besides fish? (a topic we had previously established) He used to perform great miracles.”
“Like what Granma?”
“Well boo, one time he healed a blind man…” Again, a sweet interruption, “Oh, like the time he spit in the guy's eyes?”
The word picture causes me to giggle inside, however not wanting him to forget this teachable moment, I contain my hilarity and gently correct. “Actually honey, He spit in the dirt, made mud, and put it on the blind man’s eyes. Then told him to go wash in a pool.
“That’s cool.”
I let him chew on that for a few minutes wondering where he had learned the spit lesson.*
“Your turn.” I prompt after a few minutes of silence.
“Do you think they caught any bass?” My sweet grandboy asked.
Caught a bit off guard as I’m encountering heavier expressway traffic, I respond, “Hmmm maybe.”
He then begins telling me a striped bass story which led into colorful descriptions of various aquatic species and their antics. Unfortunately, concentration on the roadway causes me drift off.
“Your turn,” he loudly interrupts my focus on the traffic snarl ahead.
Ummm where were we…oh yes largemouth bass.
Picking up the thread of his colorful fish descriptions, I introduce a new subject. “Bubbas do you know what the rainbow is a symbol of?” I alternate watching the now congested expressway and peeking in the rear view at his precious expression while he thinks of an appropriate answer.
“No Granma, actually I don’t.”
Ahhh Lord thank you for this opportunity to share the story of Noah, the flood and God’s covenant.
I explained how evil the world had become and God’s solution was to wash the earth clean with a flood. I told him how God instructed Noah to build the ark to save his family and all the animals. Then how God had given us the rainbow as a symbol that He would never again flood the earth because of evil.
Travel forward in time with me a few weeks~
I’m posting the new topic for this week’s Challenge, and the word ‘faithful’ catches my attention from my Bluetooth speaker.
I’m under a time constraint to post the winners for SPARKLE, but as I add the new topic, Holy Spirit puts the brakes on, shifts in reverse.
I pause the song, complete the task at hand, and now here I am.
Okay Lord, you have my attention, are you compelling me to write an entry?
I sense my Abba’s comical response, “daaa.”
Holy Spirit often uses music to quicken Himself in me and capture my attention, while redirecting my thoughts to something my heavenly Father would have me do.
Music, more specifically the powerful lyrics within, have been my ‘go to’ in these stormy seas. Tsunamis rolling over the body of Christ in endless waves. I feel the cry of our collective hearts.
Why God? Will this insanity ever lose its momentum?
I un-pause the song and praise and sing aloud with the lyrics for the next few minutes.
Again, the haunting voice of Chandler Brown reminds me that rest is found in God's promises. God's faithfulness must be our confidence.
Praise God and thank you Papa for reminding me.
I KNOW that we can be secure in His immutable covenant.
I plead the blood of Jesus over us all in this season of shaking, as our Father in heaven continues to make the veil between heaven and earth thinner.
No matter how surreal it seems, we can fall back on His magnificent undeniable Word.
The Truth will set us free.
Non fiction
*My grandson is a miracle baby with my youngest son’s previous 19-year-old girlfriend. Brave girl chose life. Praise God.
I called his beloved mama and asked how Brodyn knew about the spit miracle. His mama told me he is fascinated with You Tube videos about Jesus. God is SO good.
I’m possibly over word count now but this PS is simply too good not to share.
In a pool a few weekends back, the same grandson asked about baptism and so the story goes on… Jesus washing us clean, going under the water and new resurrection life. Of course, this Granma asked her grandbaby “Do you want to be baptized?” He did, he was, and I pray you’re delighted with our testimony.

and accepting baptism.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
She has accepted Jesus and has been baptized and enjoys her church activities.
I am amazed how God works through the young ones. Their innocence is unequalled.
Typical boy using the word spit.
