Why that tree?” thought Eve. Why did God say that everything he made was good; yet here they had a tree of the knowledge of good and evil?
In Genesis 2:16-17, God told Adam not to eat its fruit.
“You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
But along came the cunning serpent enemy who cleverly confused them.
Together they committed the unforgettable and ate the forbidden fruit resulting in the desecration of mankind. They were after all the original parents of mankind, so their sin passed down to humans.
Satan sold them a bag of lies. Just like the adverts that we see in the media today. Watchers are fooled into complying, spending and in confusion, beguiled by what is seen.
Eve too was beguiled because she saw that the tree was good for food…
Genesis 3:6 ‘When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.’ In disobeying God and being confused by the serpent, Adam and Eve cursed all of mankind. Women were cursed to have painful deliveries. I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain, you shall bring forth children. [Genesis 3:16-17]. Adam likewise was cursed; ‘through painful toil, you will eat food from it all the days of your life.’
There is no confusion between lies and truth nor between what is dark and what is light.
Jesus is Light and He is Truth. Now with Christ, humans have hope. We are no longer children of sin; the sin that Adam and Eve committed. We are children of light and we have hope.
[Ephesians 5:8} For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light. When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” {John 8:12}
His Light dispels any confusion that results from the lies spewed from the enemy.
