I received training at mortuary school to prepare me for this. One of the courses, my favorite, was entitled Restorative Art. I had labs to help me hone my restorative skills. My homework project for the class was to make a wax “head” of myself, complete with hair, cosmetics, and glasses.
While going to school, I worked as night manager for a motel. Often when I completed my motel work, I would work on my “head.” There were a few motel patrons who were alarmed at seeing my “head” on the counter. I worked hard on my project and won the Beaver Award.
While I got many complements throughout my career, I never brought anyone back to life: the ultimate restoration. Only God can do that.
One time, however, the family gave me a very fuzzy picture to help me. I was also given a bag of hair that was removed prior to the person’s brain surgery. I put the hair back on, adding some of my own. I was proud of my accomplishment. However, when the family came in, they told me, “John, he looks so good…but he never had much hair.” It came off a lot easier than it went on.
The Bible records a trauma that needs restoration work. It starts like this.
“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” Genesis 1:31
Sometime later Adam and Eve were deceived by the serpent and disobeyed God. God had a specific curse for Satan, a specific curse for the woman, and a specific curse for the man. Genesis 3 The plight of the world and mankind was a massive trauma! The world and mankind will never be the same until God carries out His next plan.
God’s plan calls for a new earth. “Then I saw a ‘new heaven and a new earth,’ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” Revelation 21:1, 2
There has been a lot written about the “new Heaven.” I always thought it would be in the sky somewhere. More recently I am reading that it could be the present earth restored—-made the way it was originally. While we don’t know many of the details, I believe that it will be good beyond our imagination, because that is the way God does everything.
We only get a glimpse at the future. Can you imagine how He will restore not only the earth but also our body into a heavenly body? All the blemishes, illnesses, personality flaws, and weaknesses will be gone. He is the Restoration Artist!
If we only knew how much God has prepared for us, I doubt that we would fret so much about dying.

1. You need a stronger hook. Personally, I'd begin with your "head" sitting on the counter when guests came to check into the motel. That would really grab the readers attention!
2. Concentrate on a few of the points and develop them. Use active verbs to pull the reader into your story. Don't tell what you did, how long, etc. SHOW the reader. Hope that helps!
