Pastor Jake called a meeting with the elders and deacons. Casually dressed and coffee in hand, they sat in the vestry with pained looks in their eyes.
"Brothers and sisters. we have to do something. After the recent scandal, it's now time to live again! My plan is for the church to hold a series of services hopefully and prayerfully to inspire us, the church body to gain new converts".
The floor was open. All the attendees participated and plans were made to first apologize to the town; then invite a well know evangelist to do a series of meetings. So contact was made and the evangelist agreed to come for three nights next month.
The meetings would be called
"Come One; Come All To Jesus," Pastor Jake said.
Flyers were designed and members distributed them to neighbours. A huge sign was designed and displayed outside the church building. Prayers started daily by those who volunteered to do so. The meetings would be published in media like Facebook and the local radio stations.
The revival meetings would be drive-in. The car park and fields nearby were big enough. Meanwhile, the worship team practised, mobile toilets were rented and a platform/pulpit was built.
The theme of revival was on everyone's heart. Not only did they want to reach out to the town, but the regulars felt the need to refire their faith and for the church to feel alive again. Additionally, things were happening in the country as a whole and they felt the need to reemphasize what Christian faith was all about.
All went to plan. Prayers continued. People came. Many gave their lives to Jesus and received counselling and prayer during the three nights.
They knew they would have to make discipleship a focus... New converts were befriended and mentored by elders. Returning backsliding believers came too. One of the super benefits of the 'Come One, Come All' revival was the amount of youth and children who became part of the church. People of all races came too.
The church now needed a youth pastor so in came John King. Midweek youth activities began to be held. Youth Pastor John came with his wife and four children. Children's activities were often in the weekly bulletin.
Today, ten years later, the church is still talking about that time. The regrowth and restoration gave so much hope, their faith was restored and the church grew in numbers.
"With God, all things are possible" is often heard in the pews. {Matthew 10:26 NIV}
