My story today is about a woman who found a strong kind hero and He saved her from an unliveable life.
She lived two thousand years ago. For twelve years she was ill. Her illness was draining all of her strength. It was also a shameful disease that everybody in her town knew about. She knew all the back roads that few people used. They were her paths. There she saw the wildflowers, bees and butterflies. They brought the odd smile to her lonely heart.
Her husband had deserted her long ago. "You are barren and sick", he said as he left. She could not bear children. No laughter filled her home.
Twelve years of bleeding! Many doctors and all her money had not healed her; now she was poor. Her last disaster was blood flowing down her legs as he hurried home was the final straw. After that, she started to grow some food near her house and avoided the markets.
Heartsick, she ventured out one day. She could hear people talking. News of a rabbi who used his power in good ways was the buzz. He was a hero to many because he had healed many sick and demonised people. He was such an unusual rabbi and he was in her town. So, in almost suicidal desperation she took one last chance. Persevering and all alone she wound her way into the crowd unseen.
She felt very strongly that she had to get near him so he could heal her.
"If I could only touch the hem of his garment," she thought "I will be healed" {Matthew 9:21 NKJB}.
They were too busy with him to notice her. She made her way forward to the place where he was. In her final move, she reached out and touched his garment.
Her life changed in a moment. One touch and she knew she would never be the same again.
Something moved in her and left just as Jesus turned in haste and said: "Who touched me?" {Luke 8:45}
She was no longer afraid. She was healed. The bleeding stopped and for that moment, He knew her.
Her hero knew her!
He was not angry. The crowd knew her and must have thought 'Oh that bleeding woman is here'.
{Luke 8:43-46 NKJV}
His friends thought he was mad because they were in a crowd. When she touched Jesus' garment, He touched her soul.
Just so when we touch him in prayer, using faith and the Word.
It was her great act of faith and expectation that changed her life.
"I felt healing power go out of me," Jesus said. { Luke 8:46 NKJV}.
Jesus turned and saw her. “Take courage, daughter,” He said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that very hour.…{Matthew 9:22 BB}
So, today I say to you, reach out and touch Him deliberately. He won't reject your touch.
