A smile is contagious, I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, Right up there with hello and waving. Others will return your gift, happier for the notion, with one smile, you put a lot in motion. “Why is this so tedious, Lord” Dana mused aloud. “I guess I am discouraged because it’s taking so much time and I’m impatient!” She put down her pen rather loudly and pushed back her chair in a huff! “I’m going to go down to the Coffee Shack!” she yelled loud enough that her Mom could hear her and went out the door.
The sidewalks were not crowded, so she walked the five (5) blocks to the Coffee Shack quickly. There was a big crowd inside, but no one was talking. Everyone looked like they would rather be somewhere else. ‘My, My, what could I do to cheer these people up.’ She thought. Then she remembered the words she has just written in her poem. ‘I think I will try it.’ So, when the barista asked her what she wanted, she put a huge smile on her face and said, “I’d like a mocha latte, Please!”
The waitress broke out in a smile, “I’ll get it right away!” still smiling she turned to the counter. Every person that looked at her returned her smile! It wasn’t long until about everyone in the building was smiling!
“WOW” Dana thought. “It’s true! Now I know I am doing something that really matters to people! Thank You, Lord for this lesson, I will try and always smile at others, no matter how I am feeling at the time.” Dana stood outside and smiled at each person that passed her on the sidewalk. When they smiled back, her heart felt enlarged. Now, I can go back home and finish the assignment with the knowledge that I am telling the truth!

I did not catch that your opening line was supposed to be the start of a poem. Perhaps you could have separated it once Dana started speaking. You could have expanded on this to come full circle when Dana is feeling down and someone smiles at her.
Keep on writing!
